555 Collins Street

Rising 35 storeys, 555 Collins Street combines office and retail space and has been designed as an engaging and connected workspace that prioritises occupant wellness. It will eventually accommodate up to 7,500 workers.
With construction costs estimated at $800 million, this high-rise tower is an innovative new kind of workplace created for the next generation.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

555 Collins Street is a building that sets new standards in workplace design and functionality. With the rise of a new generation of workers, this building was created with the aim of offering an ideal work environment that can cater to their needs. It is designed to offer high tech, flexible and adaptive office spaces, extensive wellness facilities, great architecture and the highest sustainability credentials.

In fact, one of the most significant features of 555 Collins Street are these sustainability credentials. The building is designed to run on 100% renewable energy, making it an environmentally-friendly choice for companies who are looking to reduce their carbon footprint. To this end, the building aims for both a 6-star Green Star and 5-star NABERS Energy rating.

The building also provides 84,000sqm of new premium-grade office space and 2,300sqm of retail. This space is designed to support a range of businesses and organizations, from startups to large corporations. But it’s not your typical city project—it was expertly curated to enhance health and wellbeing with a deeply embedded sense of place and an activated ground plane.

The main concern in creating this space was finding a balance between work and life, especially after the COVID lockdowns and a gradual return to office work. And as an extension to the wider Midtown amenity, 555 Collins will be a central hub with food, beverage, lifestyle and wellness offerings, eventually accommodating up to 7,500 workers.

The building’s focus on wellness and sustainability also reflects a growing trend in modern workplaces. Standing at the forefront of this trend, 555 Collins Street intends to create an environment that is built for the needs of its people and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.

OUR ROLE

PSV worked closely with the structural design engineers at ‘The Robert Bird Group’, the builder ‘Lend Lease’ and the relevant building surveyor ‘The McKenzie Group’ to ensure timely and proactive structural peer reviews were completed in compliance with the Building Code and current standards.

The collaboration between PSV and the other stakeholders in the construction of the tower demonstrates the importance of a rigorous structural peer review by experiencing checking engineers in ensuring compliance with current standards and regulations. The tower’s completion in 2023 will be a testament to the success of this collaborative approach, and a reminder of the importance of safety, compliance, and quality in the construction industry.
