Overview

According to the Rural Training Council of Australia, Companion Animal Services encompasses positions such as animal handler, animal trainer, assistance dog trainer, cattery attendant, groomer, kennel attendant, pet exerciser, pet funeral operator, pet shop / aquarium assistant / manager, pet transporter, security dog handler, animal breeder, and others.

According to industry requirements, this stream of the Animal Care and Management Training Package will be taught as a Certificate III and Certificate IV level qualification.

In Victoria there are about 10,000 paid employees in the companion animal industry. In Australia there are about 43,000 paid employees.
