About Primary Skills Victoria (PSV)

Since 1991 The Victorian Primary Industries Training Board (ITAB) Inc, trading as Primary Skills Victoria (PSV), has operated in partnership with the Victorian State Government to identify and advise on current and future Vocational Education & Training (VET) needs within the primary industries.  With membership drawn from peak primary industry and union organisations, PSV has the capacity to support the resolution of industry training issues and provide information to employers about training options and pathways in an industry-led training system.

The PSV Board aims to encourage industry participation in training by promoting new programs and demonstrating the profitability and productivity benefits of formal skills acquisition while improving the accessibility of training to enable users to take advantage of flexible delivery options.

The Board also works closely with private and public Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and both state and national Training Provider Networks to improve the accessibility of training and promote the benefits of training for both the business sector and students alike.

PSV seeks to assist and support the evolution of the training system by negotiating with government, on behalf of industry and training providers, for improved and appropriate training resources.

ITAB Role

Primary Skills Victoria is the Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB) for the primary industries.

To ensure there is strong industry leadership of the training system, the Victorian Government funds a network of ITABs which are experts on training needs and delivery in their particular industries.

ITABs provide authoritative, independent information on training needs, and promote skills development and take-up of training by businesses in their industries.

The Skills Victoria website ITAB page at www.skills.vic.gov.au has further details about the ITAB network and its role in the Victorian training system.
